Anna broke her heart for everyone suffering the devastating effects of Cyclone Gabrielle and she decided to release this beautiful print with all profits going to Cyclone Gabrielle Community Support for the first 30 of the Edition. All 30 prints for the charities have now been sold and she raised and donated $1200 to Red Cross and the Mayoral Relief Funds.
Anna has chosen this design 'Fortitude' as a reminder of the fragility of life and the bravery it takes to overcome these obstacles. ‘Fortitude’ represents strength and courage in the face of adversity ~ something displayed by so many throughout Aotearoa at present. There are so many whom have lost everything and it will take years to rebuild their lives and homes. Anna has chosen to re-create this print in Navy blue which represents trust and stability; something which so many inspiring people, charities and communities are providing for all of those affected to the best of their abilities right now.
Anna Leyland began her artistic journey through creating oil portraits. In 2012, she became inspired by her graphic design background and began exploring pattern making and symbolism, aiming to create conversations around the diversity and multiculturalism within Aotearoa. Anna is deeply inspired by the beauty of life and the mix of cultures within New Zealand, an interest that shines through in her contemporary acrylic jewellery.
